The device provides adjustment from 1 to 60 units in 1-unit increments and incorporates an audible end-of-dose click. Its durable construction and compact format make it a practical reusable platform for controlled laboratory and research setups.
Novo Nordisk specifies the NovoPen 4 for use with its 3ml Penfill cartridge system. For use with compatible third-party 3ml cartridges, the original cartridge holder/barrel must be modified and used together with a compatible threaded cartridge adapter and O-ring.

Available Configurations
Pen Only – Unmodified
Includes the NovoPen 4 pen in its original, unmodified configuration.
The supplied cartridge holder/barrel has not been modified for compatible third-party 3ml cartridges.
To use the pen with a compatible third-party 3ml cartridge, the original cartridge holder must first be modified. A compatible threaded 3ml cartridge adapter and O-ring are also required.
Pen with Modified Cartridge Holder
Includes the NovoPen 4 with its original supplied cartridge holder/barrel already modified to allow the insertion of a compatible third-party 3ml cartridge.
The holder modification has therefore already been completed for you.
A compatible threaded cartridge adapter and O-ring are still required to complete the third-party 3ml cartridge setup. These are not included with this option unless specifically stated.
Pen with Modification + 5 Adapters & O-Rings
Includes:
- NovoPen 4 reusable pen
- Original cartridge holder/barrel already modified
- 5 threaded 3ml cartridge adapters
- 5 corresponding O-rings
This configuration provides the modified pen together with the adapter components required for compatible third-party 3ml cartridge setups, without the need to modify the original holder yourself or purchase the adapters separately.

Adapter & Cartridge Compatibility
The standard NovoPen 4 is designed around Novo Nordisk’s 3ml Penfill cartridge format.
Compatible third-party 3ml cartridges may differ from the original Penfill dimensions and therefore require modification of the NovoPen 4 cartridge holder together with a dedicated threaded adapter and O-ring.
Selecting Pen Only – Unmodified does not include this modification.
Selecting Pen with Modified Cartridge Holder includes the required modification to the original holder, but does not include the threaded adapter or O-ring.
Selecting Pen with Modification + 5 Adapters & O-Rings includes the modified holder together with 5 compatible threaded adapters and 5 O-rings.
Compatibility may vary between cartridge manufacturers and cartridge designs, so the complete research setup should be checked before use.
